Shawna Beese was first elected Mayor of Millwood in November 2025 and took office as Millwood’s tenth mayor in January 2026.
She previously served on the Millwood City Council (2017-2025). In addition to her duties as Mayor, she sits on the Board of Directors for the Washington State Public Health Association (WSPHA) and Millwood Impact. She has historically been very active on the region’s Food Policy Council and collaborates with the City of Spokane’s Office of Neighborhood Services.
Shawna has been a lifelong resident of Millwood since 1974. Her undergraduate degree is from Gonzaga University, and her PhD is from Washington State University. She currently serves as research faculty in rural health promotion. She is an active member of Spokane Valley UMC, is married, and the proud mother of her son.
