Beautification & Tree Board

Beautification & Tree Board

The Beautification and Tree Board was established with Ordinance 364 in 2007 to oversee the maintenance and proliferation of Millwood's abundant tree canopy. The board currently has 3 members who meet quarterly to discuss upcoming grants, permits, and plans for the City's trees.

Millwood Municipal Code (MMC) Chapter 2.52 addresses the establishment of the board and the regulations for care of the City’s trees.

Permits

A permit is required for any planting, removal, replacement or trimming of trees on or over public property. If you are planning work on trees in your yard that overhang public property or city right-of-way, the permit application can be found here.

Per Ordinance 364, a Certified Arborist is required for tree removal or pruning over 3" diameter. A current list of Certified Arborists can be found here.

Urban Forestry Management Plan

In 2022, with funds received through a grant from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, the City completed a comprehensive inventory of all trees located in City rights-of-way and public spaces.

With information gathered through the inventory, the City has prepared a Urban Forestry Management Plan which addresses the care and maintenance of the City's trees.

The Urban Forestry Management plan can be viewed here.

Tree City USA

Since 2007, Millwood has been awarded the Tree City USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forrest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

To keep our city beautiful, we recommend replacing any trees that are removed. Our current Urban Forestry Management Plan identifies a need for us to diversify our current canopy. A list of recommended trees can be found here.
